"I started singing lessons with Mrs. Carstens when I was 9 years old. Not only did she help develop my voice, she also build up my confidence. Mrs. Carstens instilled in me at that young age a love and appreciation for music that will stay with me forever. Now, 15 years later I am in my final year of a Musicology degree and will continue postgraduate studies in music. I'm a music teacher myself for 6 years now. I don't think I would be where I am now if I never met Mrs. Carstens. She is a wonderful teacher who is patient and kind and some of my best childhood memories are of attending lessons at her music academy."

"What do music me to me?
Making music is the only time to forget , for a little while, about our daily rush (homework, assignments and all the things one still has to do...)
It is a talent given to you, to cherish the precious time.
It is the only time you can 'unload' yourself from all the negative the world has to offer.
It has a calming and healing effect on our mood.

"My music has really improved, I have also gained more confidence in myself and feel like I can do anything I put my mind to.
I enjoy music a lot and all my lessens with Aunty Gwenda has been amazing.
I would never be where I am today if it wasn't for her.
She never gives up on you and believes in you."

"Ek het klavier en musiekteorie geneem by Juffrou Gwenda vir 'n groot gedeelte van my skoolloopbaan.
Sy was daar vir UNISA-eksamens, Eisteddfods en konserte.
Musiekterapie is nou my loopbaan en ek kry die kans om as musiekterapeut met mense te werk wat verskillende probleme ondervind, onder andere Parkinson en Alzheimer se siekte, Down's Sindroom en traumatiese breinbeserings.
Ek sal my musiekonderwyseres Juffrou Gwenda altyd dankbaar bly!"
